![]() Survivability on the whole is quite strong for this class, thanks to a pet that is able to hold aggro in most PvE fights, an immensely strong downed state, lots of heals with the elite spec, and long range. Ranger, like Engineer, is moderately tanky, with a medium-sized health pool and medium armour. The difficulty of the class does not come from the rotation, but from staying alive while doing those rotations. There's a bit of finesse involved in swapping attunements (especially when you need to swap to your less-used attunements, water and earth), but for the most part, the rotations are very static, easy to remember, and have a lot of "cast off cooldown" skills. On the other hand, people like to blow up the difficulty of Elementalist's spell rotations, which I really don't agree with. They also spend a lot of time locked into long animations (Frost Bow #4 / #5, Meteor Storm, Overloads, etc), so your positioning and timing need to be on point while you're casting them to make sure you don't get killed while doing so. In PvP, this isn't a problem, since their high sustain and damage mitigation makes them difficult to kill, but in PvE they usually build completely glass cannon, so even a gentle gust of wind can be lethal. This makes them, on paper, the squishiest class in the game. Elementalist is a light-armour class with the lowest health pool in the game (which it shares with Thief and Guardian). I think the hardest part of Elementalist is staying alive. It's definitely the most button-press-heavy class in the game when played to its maximum effect. The bottom line is you have a lot of buttons to press, and the rotation is extremely difficult to master. On top of that, your utility skills each have a corresponding component to them called toolbelt skills. Each kit swaps your weapon skills (1 - 5) with a new set of skills. Only annoying thing I've found is that their go-to self-heal skill relies partially on blasting a water field, which can be difficult at times with other people's fields in the way.Ĭomplexity is, again, what makes them a difficult class. They're highly adaptable and quite survivable. There is never a "one-size-fits-all" playstyle for Mesmer.Įngineer is a moderately tanky profession with powerful heals, access to water fields for good sustain, and lots of tools up their sleeves (chill, blind, immobilise, weakness, stealth, invulnerability, etc). You need to know what your skills do, how to use them effectively, when to reflect, when to portal, blink spots, etc. Lastly, it requires a lot of knowledge of the profession (which can be unintuitive and weird at times) and the game if you want to play it at a high level. It also involves usage of the F5 shatter, which takes getting used to using in the middle of the fight and can very easily kill you. Not only does their rotation involve a ton of "piano-playing" on the keyboard, but it can be very unforgiving if you don't pull it off, unlike any other class's rotation, where making a mistake is usually just a small drop in DPS. On the whole, they have moderately good survivability.Ĭomplexity is what really drove me to place Mesmer at the top of the difficulty list. However, they have a lot of active defences and can hold their own, if you know how to use them. ![]() On the survivability side, Mesmers are fairly squishy, and the standard Chronomancer build often has the heal skill as part of the rotation, so they may have no access to an on-demand heal in group content. If I had to rank them from hardest to easiest overall in PvE, it'd be something like: I haven't played all the classes, but I have decent knowledge on all of them. Some classes may be rather easy to play on paper, but have a difficult time surviving, whereas others have tons of passive/active defences and an easier time surviving, but have a very complex and involved rotation. ![]() Latest patch Dev tracker Guild Wars 2 Discordĭifficulty comes in different areas.
